Vintage Babe of the Week

Tonight's Vintage Babe* is Nancy Porter!
(*a.k.a. Rule Five)

Extra points if you recognize Superman's gal pal in the group shot!

I Have to Put a Headline Here. I Just Did.

(Editor's note: The following post roams and rambles and follows my footsteps to the sparkling sands of Stockton deserted. And all around me , a voice was sounding, (which I later recognized as a trial of XM satellite radio), and may be of interest only to the author.)

I just returned from a recycling run. California is Green (no, not that green! That would require water!) and as such, they require a recycling deposit on certain blends of fruit juices, which stand cheek to jowl on the shelves with identical plastic bottles from the same manufacturer, containing a different percentage of juice, which require no deposit. The State of California extorts requires I loan them a small amount of cash for each bottle until I return it...somewhere! Caveat emptor. Up until recently, it was relatively easy to find neighborhood recycling centers - a trailer, a scale and some guy working for presumably minimum wage, nearby grocery stores, etc. These have apparently not proven economical, as they have been disappearing like Nancy Pelosi's IQ. Yes. Really that hard to find!

So, instead of recycling a couple of bags every few visits to the grocery, the recycling has been piling up. For months. Maybe a year. Tempus fugit. Yesterday, I loaded up my small SUV with glass and plastic bottles and aluminum cans and set off this AM for one of the few honest recycling centers around. It was on a side of town I hadn't visited lately, about 22 miles round trip. Figure about twenty five cents a mile for gas, and it cost me about five and a half dollars to collect on my temporary, involuntary loan to the State of California. Not sure how burning five dollars worth of gas makes the state any greener, but who am I to question my betters?

The good news is, the Tucson will hold about eighty dollars worth of recyclables, if you don't mind not being able to see out the back window. On the way over and back, I noticed a few new businesses had sprung up, apparently prospering. I happened to see a Radio Shack I used to frequent. "Look at that! They're still open", thought I, until my eyes traveled down to the "Store Closing" banner below the sign. Oh, well. Look at that!

Well, that's Thursday for you. Half of it anyway. Ulysses S. Grant in my pocket with a few friends. A year's worth of recycling out where it will do somebody good. Bookmark this page, y'all. It might make a great substitute for Sominex some sleepless night.

I tried to warn you! Even tried to class it up with some Latin, but that's about all I know!

"Everything changes a little, and it should. The good ain't forever and the bad ain't for good."

Specialist Fifth Class Clarence Eugene Sasser

Citation:

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. Sp5c. Sasser distinguished himself while assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3d Battalion. He was serving as a medical aidman with Company A, 3d Battalion, on a reconnaissance in force operation. His company was making an air assault when suddenly it was taken under heavy small arms, recoilless rifle, machinegun and rocket fire from well fortified enemy positions on 3 sides of the landing zone.
During the first few minutes, over 30 casualties were sustained. Without hesitation, Sp5c. Sasser ran across an open rice paddy through a hail of fire to assist the wounded. After helping 1 man to safety, was painfully wounded in the left shoulder by fragments of an exploding rocket. Refusing medical attention, he ran through a barrage of rocket and automatic weapons fire to aid casualties of the initial attack and, after giving them urgently needed treatment, continued to search for other wounded.
Despite 2 additional wounds immobilizing his legs, he dragged himself through the mud toward another soldier 100 meters away. Although in agonizing pain and faint from loss of blood, Sp5c. Sasser reached the man, treated him, and proceeded on to encourage another group of soldiers to crawl 200 meters to relative safety. There he attended their wounds for 5 hours until they were evacuated.
Sp5c. Sasser's extraordinary heroism is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the U.S. Army.

Sp5c. Sasser: We humbly salute you and thank you for your service.

Hat tip Home of Heroes

There are seventy four living MoH recipients today. Their names and their stories should not be forgotten. My mission is to honor one of those heroes here each week, and salute them for their courage and sacrifice. In the words of John Fitzgerald Kennedy:

Emit Magazine - Trump/Russian Derangement Edition

Let's recap:

*The last administration sold massive amounts of US uranium to Russia

*Wanted to be BFF with Putin via a cheesy "reset" button

*Rolled over and played dead when Russia invaded Crimea, despite a signed agreement for the US to defend Ukraine against invasion

*Refused to sell defensive arms to the Ukraine which would be used against Russian invaders

*Promised to be more "flexible" in our dealings with Russia after the 2012 elections, and

*When faced with "war crimes" in Syria, ceded control of the situation and allowed Russia greater influence in Syria and the Middle East

And yet, on the basis of a few unsubstantiated media stories, Trump is the one turning the White House into the Kremlin!

Update: Apparently, this idiocy was not even an original idea with Emit, but ripped off Mad Magazine (which has much more credibility!)

'Obama Free' Zone

You may be as sick of seeing this narcissist poseur and his shrewish, harridan of a wife, as much as I am. The Nobel Peace prize winner who left war and destruction in his wake, the divisive 'post-racial' president, who left a legacy of racial violence instead of healing, the wannabee statesman who declared 'the world would love us', once the 'cowboy' Bush was gone, who then alienated our allies and kow-towed to our enemies, appeasing them and granting them favors, asking no concessions for human rights in return, who simply doesn't have the decency to just go away, leave the spotlight and spend the millions of dollars he received during the last eight years, hobnobbing with celebrities and billionaires, as is his wont.

Since the worst president in the history of the Republic will not go away, as much as possible, this blog will do its best to ignore him and the woman who nearly single-handedly destroyed our nation's school lunch program, declaring this an "Obama Free" zone.

As such, I noticed four images of the former president on my sidebar: One, in a blog header, one each in the links to Photoshops and John Cox's art, which are resident in the archives, and one, to a National Review "Photoshop of the Day".

Three of those four are now gone. As much as possible I'm going to ignore these low rent socialists and their prescriptions for destroying America, until they assume their proper place in American history: somewhere below "Pet Rocks" and somewhere above the "Salem Witch trials".

Sergeant Gordon R. Roberts

Citation:

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. Sgt. Roberts distinguished himself while serving as a rifleman in Company B, during combat operations. Sgt. Roberts' platoon was maneuvering along a ridge to attack heavily fortified enemy bunker positions which had pinned down an adjoining friendly company.
As the platoon approached the enemy positions, it was suddenly pinned down by heavy automatic weapons and grenade fire from camouflaged enemy fortifications atop the overlooking hill. Seeing his platoon immobilized and in danger of failing in its mission, Sgt. Roberts crawled rapidly toward the closest enemy bunker. With complete disregard for his safety, he leaped to his feet and charged the bunker, firing as he ran. Despite the intense enemy fire directed at him, Sgt. Roberts silenced the 2-man bunker. Without hesitation, Sgt. Roberts continued his l-man assault on a second bunker.
As he neared the second bunker, a burst of enemy fire knocked his rifle from his hands. Sgt. Roberts picked up a rifle dropped by a comrade and continued his assault, silencing the bunker. He continued his charge against a third bunker and destroyed it with well-thrown hand grenades. Although Sgt. Roberts was now cut off from his platoon, he continued his assault against a fourth enemy emplacement. He fought through a heavy hail of fire to join elements of the adjoining company which had been pinned down by the enemy fire. Although continually exposed to hostile fire, he assisted in moving wounded personnel from exposed positions on the hilltop to an evacuation area before returning to his unit.
By his gallant and selfless actions, Sgt. Roberts contributed directly to saving the lives of his comrades and served as an inspiration to his fellow soldiers in the defeat of the enemy force. Sgt. Roberts' extraordinary heroism in action at the risk of his life were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the U.S. Army.

Sgt. Roberts: We humbly salute you and thank you for your service.

Kimberly Guilfoyle to Replace Sean Spicer?

There are rumors that Kimberly Guilfoyle, of Fox News, s a possible replacement for White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer.

While we normally don't give much heed to rumors being floated about, this one may have legs..
