(The funny one is on the right!)

During the First World War, Hardwicke served in the London Scottish Regiment with fellow actors Basil Rathbone, Ronald Colman, Herbert Marshall and Claude Rains. He served as an officer in the Judge Advocate's branch of the British Army in France from 1914 to 1921. He was one of the last members of the British Expeditionary Force to leave France.

Carney was drafted into the United States Army as an infantryman as a machine gun crewman during World War II. During the Battle of Normandy serving in the 28th Infantry Division, he was wounded in the leg by shrapnel and walked with a limp for the rest of his life. As a result of the injury, his right leg was 3/4-inch shorter than his left

Gentlemen: we salute you and thank you for your service and sacrifice for your countries. Rest in Peace.
