Is Barbara Bouncer Up for Re-election This Year?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I just got an email from Barbara Bouncer*, er, Boxer, which is pretty unusual in itself, but this one celebrates the glory of the Lunar New Year:

Dear Friend:

In the coming days, families will celebrate the Lunar New Year, one of the most important holidays in many Asian cultures, which falls on January 31st in 2014 – the Year of the Horse.

The Lunar New Year is a time for families to come together. Communities around the globe mark this celebratory occasion by gathering with loved ones, paying respects to elders and ancestors, and reflecting on the past. It is also a time to look toward the future with a sense of hope and renewal.

As people come together to celebrate the diverse history and cultures of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in California and across the nation, I offer warm wishes to all for a happy and healthy Lunar New Year.

Sincerely, Barbara Boxer

Trying to figure out if it's a simple pandering for votes, or if there's an extra special whiff of desperation in Ms. Boxer's campaign this year?

*Barbara Bouncer was the name given to her in the days of the House Banking scandal, where Congress critters wrote copious and large amounts of checks against insufficient funds, knowing the House "Bank" would treat them as interest free loans.

  1. She's 73 and very long in the tooth, but I think that she plans to run for one more term since her California partner in crime, Sen. Diane Feinstein is retiring at the end of her current term.

You must be very special to be receiving such personal (dear friend) attention from her at the beginning of the year of the Horse.

  2. I don't think her term is up until 2016. LL, sorry but Feinstein is around until 2018. As far as the year of the horse and Boxer goes, isn't that what she used to celebrate in the Tijuana years ago?
