"Just One Child..."
Saw this cartoon over at Blonde Sagacity (ain't Gary Varvel great?), but it's not the only instance of liberal hypocrisy on this point. The CAFE standards, for example, making cars lighter and lighter, in order to achieve fuel economy at the expense of safety. Apply the "if it saved just one child's life" standard to making cars more survivable in a crash and tell me which side the liberals fall on?

Medal of Honor
Major Howard V. Lee
Citation:
For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. A platoon of Maj. (then Capt.) Lee's company, while on an operation deep in enemy territory, was attacked and surrounded by a large Vietnamese force. Realizing that the unit had suffered numerous casualties, depriving it of effective leadership, and fully aware that the platoon was even then under heavy attack by the enemy, Maj Lee took 7 men and proceeded by helicopter to reinforce the beleaguered platoon. Maj. Lee disembarked from the helicopter with 2 of his men and, braving withering enemy fire, led them into the perimeter, where he fearlessly moved from position to position, directing and encouraging the overtaxed troops. The enemy then launched a massive attack with the full might of their forces. Although painfully wounded by fragments from an enemy grenade in several areas of his body, including his eye, Maj. Lee continued undauntedly throughout the night to direct the valiant defense, coordinate supporting fire, and apprise higher headquarters of the plight of the platoon. The next morning he collapsed from his wounds and was forced to relinquish command. However the small band of marines had held their position and repeatedly fought off many vicious enemy attacks for a grueling 6 hours until their evacuation was effected the following morning. Maj. Lee's actions saved his men from capture, minimized the loss of lives, and dealt the enemy a severe defeat. His indomitable fighting spirit, superb leadership, and great personal valor in the face of tremendous odds, reflect great credit upon himself and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the U.S. Naval Service.
Major Lee: We humbly salute you and thank you for your service.

Language Tortured in Aftermath of Marathon Bombing
One of the casualties in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombing and terror spree, is language, or at least common sense in regards to language. Rush Limbaugh today played a montage of news anchors and commentators referring to the Boston Marathon bombers as "kids". It was unreal. There must have been at least two dozen, if not more, newspeople and talking heads using the word "kids" to describe two cold blooded killers.
FYI, These are "kids":
Kids brainwashed and blinded by hatred, but kids, nonetheless. Nineteen and twenty-six year olds, who plot and plant bombs designed to maximize death and dismemberment, and get in shootouts with police are not "kids". Not sure what the endgame of this particular meme is here. Maybe to make Dzhokhar Tsarnaev more sympathetic to those who see him more as an enemy combatant, subject to interrogation, rather than a "first time offender" in the criminal justice system, entitled to full Miranda rights...
The second thing that bothered me was in today's news coverage, a statement by the surviving bomber about the motivation of his brother:
"He 'wanted to defend Islam from attack'...". And the 30,000 runners, 8,500 volunteers, 1,100 media members and 500,000 spectators of the Boston Marathon were the primary enemies of Islam? What? Had they just run 26.2 miles to desecrate a mosque?? Passed out cartoons of Mohammed to wear in lieu of numbers???
This is not a reason. A rationalization, perhaps, but, this is only an excuse. Nothing more. Random murder to make a political statement is not a "defense" of anything. This seems to me to be the groundwork for a variation of SODDit. Some Other Dude Did it. My dead brother was the mastermind. He talked me into it. I was just some dumb "kid" who looked up to his big brother. Blame the dead guy, not me!
Kids a lot younger than 19 have been tried as adults. Kids who acted without as much premeditation or planning as this attack. I don't care if this guy wasn't the ringleader. He participated in a deadly bombing and shoot out which killed and maimed people, scarring them for life. He is clearly old enough to know the difference between right and wrong. His careless disregard of human life prior to the attack, through his attempt to escape, so that he could kill again, makes this guy a candidate for lethal injection. Whether or not the Obama justice department, which fumbled a case as simple as the New Black Panther voter intimidation case, can obtain justice for the victims of the Boston Marathon and its aftermath, remains to be seen.

Watch President Drip with Sincerity
The President graced us with with a speech tonight that will make us forget the Gettysburg address, will make us forget "We have nothing to fear but fear itself", make us forget "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country".
Well, not forget, exactly. But, being in a coma is almost like forgetting, isn't it? Within minutes of the people who actually risked their lives and were responsible for capturing the bombing suspect ending their press conference, Barry sprinted to the sound of the microphones and cameras to insert himself into the spotlight before it faded. I suppose he could have called the first responders and FBI, and congratulated them personally for a job well done... if it had been about them. But, no one would have seen him do that. I suppose he could have invited them up to the White House for a small ceremony, or some random golf course for a round of golf. But, not as many people would be paying attention then. President Me couldn't bear the thought of passing up the opportunity to put his face in front of the American people one more time.
Hope he thinks it was worth it. Watch, or watch again the colorless, bland and boring laundry list of people dying, losing their homes and being maimed for life, and tell me if the president reeks with sincerity or just reeks?
The Master of Understatement tells us, "it's been a tough week". Really, Barry? What was your first clue? His listless recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance at the end was particularly less than inspiring. But, the performance did put me in mind of a similarly passionate oration:
The saying is "always leave them wanting more", Barry. Not "always leave them wanting you to leave."
Update: And here I thought it was just me! "Robotic, Emotionless President Obama Gets Boston Victim’s Name Wrong" It's "Lu Lingzi", not "Ling Su Lu".

"I Think We Can Coexist Better If One of Us is Dead"
From the 'truth is stranger than fiction' department, I have heard from two different sources now, that the car the two suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing used as a getaway car, had a "Coexist" bumper sticker on it. But, then, anyone with that low of a regard for human life would lie about other things, too.
Update: Apparently this was on the back of the car they hijacked. Perhaps now the owners of the car will see the folly of their ways?

Here's an update: Wesley Snipes has been released from jail, on April 2, 2013. He still remains under home confinement until July 19. The other three men are still politicians.

President Strawman H. Bamboozler Doesn't Disappoint Us
President Strawman H. Bamboozler, standing outside the White House next to Tailgunner Joe the Bumbler Biden, had a few choice remarks after the defeat of his party's latest attempt to circumvent the Second Amendment. And, as is his usual custom, he created a strawman argument that no one in the world is making, in order to demonstrate just how "common sensical" he and his cohorts are. Like most good demagogues, it was very subtle:
One common argument I heard was that this legislation wouldn't prevent all future massacres. And that's true. As I said from the start, no single piece of legislation can stop every act of violence and evil.
Who exactly have you heard, Mr. President, since it is so "common", that "this legislation wouldn't prevent all future massacres"? I don't know of anyone anywhere who claims that any single piece of legislation would prevent "all" of anything. That's why laws are accompanied by the penalties that violations of those laws bring.
The most common argument, Mr. President, is that this legislation would not have prevented ANY of the massacres that supposedly necessitated and prompted its passage. You see the difference? We say, Mr. President, this bill would not have prevented any of the mass shootings you say prompted the law, you respond, of course the law won't prevent all mass shootings. Dishonesty comes to you as naturally as breathing, doesn't it, Mr. President?
They say if you want to know what a liberal is guilty of, just look to see what he accuses his opponents of doing:
"the gun lobby and its allies willfully lied about the bill...unfortunately, this pattern of spreading untruths about this legislation served a purpose..."
It is a shame that the United States of America is lead by a man of such low moral character, that he lies continually. It is a greater shame that, even as skillful a liar as he is, that so many of his followers believe him.
Obama will continue to use those who have suffered tragedies, as pawns in his political gamesmanship. He will continue to demagogue every issue he believes will help him to remake this country into something its founders never imagined. There's a verse in the Bible that Obama ought to consider:
Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!I wonder if Rev. "G*dd*mn America" Wright ever mentioned that verse in his hearing, in his twenty some odd years of pew warming?

Medal of Honor
Specialist Fourth Class Thomas James Kinsman
Citation:
For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty Sp4c. Kinsman (then Pfc.) distinguished himself in action in the afternoon while serving as a rifleman with Company B, on a reconnaissance-in-force mission. As his company was proceeding up a narrow canal in armored troops carriers, it came under sudden and intense rocket, automatic weapons and small-arms fire from a well entrenched Viet Cong force. The company immediately beached and began assaulting the enemy bunker complex. Hampered by exceedingly dense undergrowth which limited visibility to 10 meters, a group of 8 men became cut off from the main body of the company. As they were moving through heavy enemy fire to effect a link-up, an enemy soldier in a concealed position hurled a grenade into their midst. Sp4c. Kinsman immediately alerted his comrades of the danger, then unhesitatingly threw himself on the grenade and blocked the explosion with his body. As a result of his courageous action, he received severe head and chest wounds. Through his indomitable courage, complete disregard for his personal safety and profound concern for his fellow soldiers, Sp4c. Kinsman averted loss of life and injury to the other 7 men of his element. Sp4c. Kinsman's extraordinary heroism at the risk of his life, above and beyond the call of duty, are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the U.S. Army.
Sp4c. Kinsman: We humbly salute you and thank you for your service.

Can we all please step back a moment from our selfish and self-centered lives and ruminate on how difficult it must be to raise children when your husband is President of the United States? I mean it has to be tough, what with coordinating the maids, butlers, chefs, gardeners, chauffeurs, personal secretaries, security detail, gofers, press agents, and other underlings that one gets by virtue of living in the White House. And it sucks that the girls can’t spend more time with daddy because he is off on a golf vacation in Florida or they are kicking it as a ski resort in Sun Valley. Next time you are stuck in traffic trying to get the kids delivered from afternoon swim practice to their evening church group meeting and wondering if you might have time to swing through the Taco Bell drive-through to get them something to eat and realizing that you are supposed to pick your spouse up at the airport when she returns from her week-long business trip at 11:00 pm, just remember that Michelle Obama is struggling even more than you are.-JVW

The Cindy Sheehanization of Sandy Hook
Anyone here remember Cindy Sheehan? Anybody? Anybody at all? Back before the war in Afghanistan became Obama's and the casualties really started to mount, the Main Stream Media found a champion against the war in Cindy Sheehan. Cindy's son had been killed during the Iraq war, and Cindy would camp out by the side of the road in Crawford, Texas, to see if she could waylay President Bush on his way to or from his ranch. As an IED of the MSM (Improvised Exploitative Device), Cindy was supposed to have moral authority to oppose the war, perhaps more than any other, because she lost her son in the fighting.
After a while, her fame at being a gadfly, escalated to where she could rub shoulders with dictators, and demagogues like Jesse Jackson, up until there was a Democrat in the White House. After that, it didn't matter how many mothers lost their sons in the escalation of deaths in Afghanistan, because protesting a Democrat president simply isn't done, except by the far Left wackadoos, and we try to keep our distance from them!
The reason I bring up dear, forgotten Cindy, discarded by the Left like a Kleenex in an influenza ward, is it seems to be happening again to a lesser degree with the parents of Sandy Hook. The Left doesn't have a logical argument for implementing a new regiment of gun control laws. They are exhibiting the "never let a crisis go to waste" mentality that they tried with Gabby Giffords* and the Aurora theater shooting and now with the Sandy Hook shooting, to stir people emotionally to the point that they do not recognize that none of the proposed measures would have stopped any of those tragic shootings. Not one.
It seems that flying the parents, or at least some of the parents, out on Air Force One and squiring them around to twist the arms of law makers is an attempt to make use of this same supposed "moral authority" that Cindy Sheehan was supposed to have. "Who better to judge whether or not we should be at war than someone who lost a son?" translates to "Who better to judge what is a good gun control law than someone whose child was a shooting victim?" Well, in Ms. Sheehan's case, perhaps someone who was an expert on military strategy, or someone familiar with the security and defense needs of our country, or the intentions of our adversary? People also lose loved ones in auto accidents every day. It scarcely makes them authorities on automobiles, road construction or advisability of traffic laws.
While we have deep feelings for those surviving family members of the Sandy Hook shooting, grieving for their loss, it doesn't make them an authority on gun control or the Second Amendment, or give them some moral authority that should supersede the rights of fellow citizens. I truly feel sorry for their loss, but it does not make them experts on guns or legislation, it merely makes them political pawns.
And when all the President's men are through using them, they will find themselves abandoned, by the side of the road, alongside Cindy Sheehan. And any actions taken by this administration will have been to further their own political agenda.
*Remember the shameful "memorial" service/ pep rally Obama had in Tucson for those who were killed? All the attendees were given a "Together We Thrive" t-shirt, because what's a proper remembrance of the dead without a slogan for the President's reelection campaign?

There is not even a patriotic duty to increase one’s taxes. Over and over again the Courts have said that there is nothing sinister in so arranging affairs as to keep taxes as low as possible. Everyone does it, rich and poor alike and all do right, for nobody owes any public duty to pay more than the law demands.-Judge Learned Hand

Welcome to Baja British Columbia!
It gets old...telling people you are from California and either receiving that sad eyed, mournful "Poor baby!" look, or always having to explain that, yes, I am in my right mind, and no, I don't see any hope with liberals running the state. So, I've decided, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em! Since there are splinter groups calling southern California, "Northern Mexico", I don't see why I can't just rename my part of the state, Baja British Columbia! It has a much nicer ring to it, don't you think?
And since I may be the leading, and only, literary light in Baja British Columbia (pop. 1), I should have a proper title. I'm trying to choose between 'the Sage of Southern BC', or 'the Bard of Baja British Columbia'. I'm leaning towards the latter... I'm wondering if I should get a new passport?

Yeah, he’s rich. Yeah, he’s part of the “1 percent.” But (a) he’s worked his butt off, (b) he has provided goods and services that people need or want, (c) he’s paid millions in taxes, (d) he’s given millions to charity, (e) he’s employed thousands of people. How can that be bad?-Jay Nordlinger, on an entrepreneur

Democrats Run Like Scalded Dogs From "Progress Kentucky"
As well they should! No doubt by now, you've heard about the kerfluffle with a "progressieve"* PAC of Democrats accused of bugging Mitch McConnell's office to eavesdrop on his campaign strategy. They then fronted a tape of McConnell and his aides discussing the dastardly prospect of repeating what Ashley Judd had actually said, should she choose to run against him. Horrors! The worst thing you can do to a liberal is to quote them correctly!
Now the fall back claim is that these clean cut, Democrat chappies just happened to be standing in the hallway outside McConnell's office and just happened to overhear what was being said and just happened to have an iphone with them to record the conversation. Does this remind you at all of the Florida couple who managed to tape both sides of a cell phone conversation with Newt Gingrich who just happened to have a recorder in the car along with their scanner?
Picture that for yourself: two guys trying to stand nonchalantly outside McConnell's office, not having a conversation (because that would have turned up on the tape, right?), apparently loitering in that spot for the duration of McConnell's staff meeting?
I'm not that familiar with the place, but don't you think that during that time someone might have passed them in the hall or called security to check on the guys loitering outside a Senator's office?
Just for comparison, one of McConnell's aides should stand in the hallway with an iphone and see what they can record from outside the office, for comparison. Think back to the last conference call you sat in on, where people were huddled around a microphone in the center of the conference table and you didn't have trouble hearing what everyone had to say.
Funny how the liberals who are always oh, so, concerned about people's privacy, can't seem to grant the same courtesy to their political opponents. (Or your medical records, when it suits them. More on this later.)

*…that I’ve seen all week! Note: This will be a somewhat abbreviated linkaround this week, as I decided to test the driver's side airbag on the Proofmobile. (Works fine! Propellant smells a little funny, though!) No grievous harm came to any of the participants, but, as a parting gift, there were many mounds of paper and the logistics of getting from point A to point B in the near soon, plus generous portions of 'hurry up and wait'. But, in the famous words of Uncle Billy in 'It's a Wonderful Life': "I'm all right! I'm all right!"
If I have a chance over the weekend, I will go back and pickup links from some of the 'usual suspects'.

Quote du jour
It is not the constitutional prerogative of the Government to determine needs. One person may need (or want) more leisure, another more work; one more adventure, another more security, and so on. It is this diversity that makes a country, indeed a state, a city, a church, or a family, healthy. “One-size-fits-all,” and that size determined by the State has a name, and that name is “slavery.”-David Mamet

Quote du jour
Every day of his first term, Barack Obama has overseen $3 billion per day in borrowing, which has added at least $5 trillion to the national debt — with trillions more still to be borrowed. The extraordinary figure is largely a result of unprecedented federal spending. The first 42 presidents ran up about one-third of the present $16 trillion in aggregate debt; George W. Bush in eight years nearly matched their total; and Barack Obama, before his first term is even completed, has already trumped Bush’s total and accounted for the final third of the national debt.-Victor Davis Hanson
