(The other three are politicians.)

  1. Ahh, well played. Poor Wesley Snipes, he had such a promising career. Oh who am I kidding, besides Blade and Rising Sun, his movies sucked.

As far as our scumbag politicians, we can't expect them to do everything. Jeez, cut them some slack. How are they supposed to run the country and follow its laws at the same time. You are just a hater.

  2. If poor Mr. Snipes was a valet at the Congressional parking lot, he still should have gotten a better shake in light of all the tax cheats in Washington these days. It ain't justice if it ain't equally applied.

  3. Well, in all fairness, Mr. Snipes did evade a whole buttload more taxes than the rest of them put together.

That being said, of course the 'lawmakers' exempt themselves from the laws. They are too noble and pure to need to bother about such trifles.

  4. Not fair man. All four should be doing perp walks.

  5. I see Geitner, Snipes and Rangel. Who is the fourth?

  6. Tom Dashcle - Democrat Majority Leader until the good folks in South Dalota gave him the boot. He's also a pro abortion Catholic and his wife made a killing as a lobbist while he was in politics (but of course there was never a question of a conflict of interest - sarcasm).

The point is - if you are a liberal democrat politician you don't get prosecuted, because your intentions must be incredibly pure and taxes aren't really for politicians.
How long were they opted out of social security taxes (yes, taxes) and they opted themselves out of Obamacare? It seems all these GREAT programs are too good for them.

  7. Snipes not only refused to pay the taxes, he tried to promote the idea that he was not obligated to pay any Federal income taxes. Nor did he apologize. And he forced the US Government to take him to court. And he was very vocal about the whole thing.

Nice effort, but your comparison? Sucks.

  8. Oh, I see. One guy didn't apologize and forced the US to take him to court. And was vocal.

And the others only didn't pay tens of thousands of dollars in taxes they were well aware they had a legal obligation to pay. And in two instances, they were directly responsible for passing the tax laws that the rest of us including Mr. Snipes have to follow. And in the third instance, he was responsible for enforcing said laws.

They had no cause to apologize, or, for that matter, be taken to court.

    Yeah, I see the difference.

    The comparison's pretty good.

    Let's play "Name that Party"

  10. The point isn't that Snipes should have gotten the same punishment as the other three... the point is that the other three should have gotten the same punishment as Snipes.

  11. Nice. And congrats on the Instalanche!

  12. Jorg: Agree on both points.

Formerly known as Skeptic: Hmm. Are you saying the three politicians might all be from the same party??

Paul: What sucks is that the one political party, home to tax cheats, is actively seeking to impose more and higher taxes on the rest of the populace, and turning a blind eye to tax evaders in their own midst.

Anonymous: "the point is that the other three should have gotten the same punishment as Snipes" Exactly.

blogprof: Thanks! I've been doing a little countdown in my head to my 100,000th visit to the blog. Imagine my surprise when I woke up this AM and there it was! (And then some!)

  13. No, I don't think the point is that the 3 pols should have been given the same shaft as Snipes. The point is that the three have played a role in assembling a tax regime so oppressive and onerous, they were unable to comply with it. Taxes should be so simple and affordable that even greedy idiots, such as these three Dems, are willing and able to comply.

  14. IceCreamMan: And everyone should have some skin in the game. Even a token tax on the working poor, one that could be refunded to them April 15th, might illustrate to them the harm done by raising taxes to pay for profligate spending.

  15. So many political thugs and so little time. There is only two more years until the next election, have to get cracking folks.

  16. I'm with you, ron! 2010 was great, but it's just the beginning. Pelosi couldn't or wouldn't drain the swamp, so it's up to us to do it for her!

I think "frog marched" would be appropriate in these cases.

  18. "Well, in all fairness, Mr. Snipes did evade a whole buttload more taxes than the rest of them put together."

No, that is not "fairness", it is pointing out degrees. If one excuses Daschle, Rangel, and Geitner while prosecuting Snipes, one necessarily admits that it is not cheating on ones taxes that is wrong, rather some arbitrary point at which it can be punished. And while it may be the law, this kind of system abandons all moral authority. It is not based on any fixed standard, rather it is at the whim of fickle and often capricious government sponsored prosecutors.

  19. Thanks all for the update on who the third guy was.

  20. Wesley should have been in Congress or the administration. Then he would have only paid a fine and got a "stern lecture."

  21. The point is not that Snipes was trying to advance some fringe theory on tax law. You don't think Snips is a good comparison? Insert the photo of anyone who is or has done time for tax evasion.

The first name that pops into my mind is Capone.

  22. I'm with you, Maria. It's hard to claim that there is justice when all people are not treated equally under the law.
