Air America Goes Belly Up

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

A moment of Schadenfreude, please!

Air America, the radio network founded to be a progressive alternative to conservative talk radio, announced today that it is ceasing live programming operations immediately.

The company, which cited a "very difficult economic environment," will file under Chapter 7 of the Bankruptcy Code, according to a statement on its Web site.

Air America launched in April of 2004, and Sen. Al Franken and Rachel Maddow have been among its hosts.

I'd ask for a moment of silence, but Air America is providing plenty of that, wholesale! Heh.

Update: Via Jonah Goldberg on The Corner:
Since last summer, Air America has been heard in the Washington area on WZAA (1050 AM). Its audience has been so small that Arbitron, which compiles radio ratings, was unable to detect any listeners for WZAA during several weeks in December.

That's in Washington.

  1. People aren't buying what's being sold at Air America. If your products don't sale you go out of business or else get a new line---and you know progressives, well they are stuck with their sh*t for they can't change.

  2. Thinking they could duplicate the success of or compete against Rush Limbaugh in the arena of ideas was a mistake from the beginning. Perhaps why I used to call them "Err America"...

  3. Does this mean Randi Rhodes will no longer have a medical plan? I sure hope she lays off the margaritas lest she try to pulverize concrete with her face again!

  4. Randi is getting a concrete lesson in the facts of life just now, I imagine!
