"Let's just hope President Obama pays closer attention during national security briefings than he did during 20 years of the Rev. Wright's church services."
You know, it may be hard to find a candidate who doesn’t belong to a church whose leader delivers eyebrow-singeing speeches on the evils of America and also built a house Jim Bakker would approve, and it may be hard to find a candidate who doesn’t move with ease in the same social circles as some people who bombed the Pentagon, but it can’t be that hard to find one who doesn’t do both.

People ask me all the time how the “Pin-Ups For Vets” calendar project came to be...
A few years ago, I started seeing news articles about under-funded Veterans’ healthcare programs. Then, there were stories about older Veterans who lay in bed day after day, never receiving any visitors. Reports started surfacing on TV about the severe injuries sustained by our troops fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The more I heard about the uphill battles of our Wounded Warriors, the more convinced I was of the need to produce a project that would bring in funds to support all of our hospitalized Veterans.
My late Grandpa Lou served in the army for 4 years during World War II. I wanted to do something to honor his name. I always loved the romance of those bygone eras - especially the 1940’s - and I drew inspiration from the World War II pin-up girls, whose photos and paintings boosted morale for our soldiers fighting overseas.
"First, I did nothing to intervene; the two Senators worked it out on their own," Second, the subject of the debate - the status of Americans held as prisoner in Vietnam - was one that always provoked violent, ugly debates."
The two senators were both "extremely angry," Kerrey adds, but McCain was "at no time threatening."
Kerrey, a Democrat and Hillary Clinton backer, concludes: "My experience is that [McCain's] anger always has a purpose and in this case the purpose was to defeat Senator Grassley's argument which he did decisively."
And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country.
We are the heirs and caretakers of freedom; a blessing preserved with the blood of heroes down through the ages. One cannot go to Arlington Cemetery and see name upon name, grave upon grave, row upon row, without being deeply moved by the sacrifice made by those young men and women.
And those of us who live in this time, who are the beneficiaries of their sacrifice, dare not forget what they did and why they did it, lest we lose our own love of liberty.
Well, look, I revere the American flag, and I would not be running for president if I did not revere this country. This is -- I would not be standing here if it wasn't for this country.
And I've said this -- again, there's no other country in which my story is even possible; somebody who was born to a teenage mom, raised by a single mother and grandparents from small towns in Kansas, you know, who was able to get an education and rise to the point where I can run for the highest office in the land. I could not help but love this country for all that it's given me.
And so what I've tried to do is to show my patriotism by how I treat veterans when I'm working in the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee; by making sure that I'm speaking forcefully about how we need to bring this war in Iraq to a close, because I think it is not serving our national security well and it's not serving our military families and our troops well; talking about how we need to restore a sense of economic fairness to this country because that's what this country has always been about, is providing upward mobility and ladders to opportunity for all Americans. That's what I love about this country. And so I will continue to fight for those issues.

* $2.5 million went to the Violence Policy Center, which has campaigned for a national ban on all handguns.
* $20,000 paid to publish Every Handgun Is Aimed at You: The Case for Banning Handguns
* $10,000 went to another gun-banning group, Handgun-Free America
Does anyone else see a pattern? If Obama doesn’t want to ban handguns, he certainly chose the wrong foundation to help run. Once again, his track record speaks in opposition to his blandishments towards the benighted and embittered gun owners that he wants to rescue through bigger federal government.
According to the 2006 General Social Survey, which has tracked gun ownership since 1973, 34% of American homes have guns in them. This statistic is sure to surprise many people in cities like San Francisco – as it did me when I first encountered it. (Growing up in Seattle, I knew nobody who owned a gun.)Hear, that Barack? Gun owners earn an average of 32% more than non-owners. (I can attest to that! You generally don't start purchasing firearms until after you have above average disposable income. Most guns ain't cheap!)
Who are all these gun owners? Are they the uneducated poor, left behind? It turns out they have the same level of formal education as nongun owners, on average. Furthermore, they earn 32% more per year than nonowners. Americans with guns are neither a small nor downtrodden group.
Nor are they "bitter." In 2006, 36% of gun owners said they were "very happy," while 9% were "not too happy." Meanwhile, only 30% of people without guns were very happy, and 16% were not too happy.Hear that? Some of those "poor, bitter boobs" you are disparaging are Democrats! (Let me know how that works out for you in the PA primary!)
In 1996, gun owners spent about 15% less of their time than nonowners feeling "outraged at something somebody had done." It's easy enough in certain precincts to caricature armed Americans as an angry and miserable fringe group. But it just isn't true. The data say that the people in the approximately 40 million American households with guns are generally happier than those people in households that don't have guns.
The gun-owning happiness gap exists on both sides of the political aisle. Gun-owning Republicans are more likely than nonowning Republicans to be very happy (46% to 37%). Democrats with guns are slightly likelier than Democrats without guns to be very happy as well (32% to 29%). Similarly, holding income constant, one still finds that gun owners are happiest.
Why are gun owners so happy? One plausible reason is a sense of self-reliance, in terms of self-defense or even in terms of the ability to hunt their own dinner. So, self reliant people tend to be happier, and less self reliant people tend to be...Democrats?
Many studies over the years have shown that a belief in one's control over the environment dramatically adds to happiness. Example: a famous study of elderly nursing home patients in the 1970s. It showed dramatic improvements in life satisfaction from elements of control as seemingly insignificant as being able to care for one's plants.

"...excerpts from a speech by Libyan leader Mu'ammar Al-Qadhafi at the Arab League summit in Damascus. The speech aired on Al-Jazeera TV on March 29, 2008"
"The Israelis Did Not Occupy [The West Bank and Gaza Strip] in 1948 - They Left It To You For 20 Years, So Why Didn't You Establish a Palestinian State?"
Mu'ammar Qadhafi: "People here talked about the pre-1967 borders. To tell you the truth, this is astonishing. Whatever happened to the [Palestinian] cause we had before 1967? Were we lying to ourselves or to the world? Thousands of martyrs fell before 1967. What for? How can you say that Palestine was occupied only in 1967, and that [Israel] must return to the pre-1967 borders?
"Does Palestine consist of only the West Bank and the Gaza Strip? If so, it means that the Israelis did not occupy it in 1948. They left it to you for 20 years, so why didn't you establish a Palestinian state? Wasn't the Gaza Strip part of Egypt and the West Bank part of Jordan? The Jews left them to you for 20 years - from 1948 to 1967. If that is Palestine, why didn't you establish a state there? What is the justification for all the wars, the sacrifices, and the economic embargo on Israel before 1967? The Israelis can sue the Arabs now, and demand billions or even trillions in compensation for the damage caused them in 1948-1967.
"You Arabs admitted that the [Palestinian] cause began after 1967. So the Israelis can ask: 'Why did you fight us before that?' They will demand Arab compensation for the so-called embargo on Israel and for the economic damage caused to the Israelis. If the Israelis sue you, they will win. They will say: We suffered an injustice. We are like an innocent lamb surrounded by wolves. We've been saying this since 1948.Had the plight of the Palestinians been the primary concern of the Arab world, the Palestinians would have had a homeland long ago.
"Now the Arabs themselves have admitted that Palestine was occupied in 1967. Now they demand that Israel return to the pre-1967 borders, saying this will resolve the problem, and they will recognize Israel. Why didn't you recognize Israel before 1967?
"All the damage suffered in 1948, 1956, 1967, and 1973, to this day - what was it all for, if the entire Palestinian cause began after 1967? Why didn't you recognize the so-called Israel before 1967, if Palestine was not occupied before then?
"This is strange. It is illogical. It doesn't make sense. What is this? There is no God but Allah. By Allah, this is unacceptable. It doesn't make sense. You say that you will recognize Israel within the pre-1967 borders?! Maybe Israel will occupy more Arab land in, say, 2008, and a few years later, you will demand that it return to the pre-2008 borders, in exchange for recognizing Israel. This is exactly what's going on now.

But for some, name dropping — specifically the “woman” part — is a touchy subject. There’s a reason for that, say leading female academics, women’s policy analysts and other members: Names do matter.Did you get that? “When they refer to themselves as congresswoman, this sounds different because it is different,” said Latifa Lyles, of the National Organization for Women, a feminist advocacy group. “I think that is significant,” added Lyles, who supports use of the term “congresswoman.”
“We don’t have to pretend we’re not women in order to be leaders in this country,” she said.
Barbara Kellerman, a professor of women’s and government studies at Harvard University, said women — like many minority groups — are repeatedly at odds with issues of nomenclature.
“Whenever we blend with the male appellation, we are diminishing the significance of the accomplishment,” said Kellerman.

Patrick Moore is a critic of the environmental movement—an unlikely one at that. He was one of the cofounders of Greenpeace, and sailed into the Aleutian Islands on the organization's inaugural mission in 1971, to protest U.S. nuclear tests taking place there. After leading the group for 15 years he left abruptly, and, in a controversial reversal, has become an outspoken advocate of some of the environmental movement's most detested causes, chief among them nuclear energy.
NEWSWEEK's Fareed ZAKARIA: At Greenpeace, you fought against nuclear energy. What changed?
MOORE: My belief, in retrospect, is that because we were so focused on the destructive aspect of nuclear technology and nuclear war, we made the mistake of lumping nuclear energy in with nuclear weapons, as if all things nuclear were evil. And indeed today, Greenpeace still uses the word "evil" to describe nuclear energy. I think that's as big a mistake as if you lumped nuclear medicine in with nuclear weapons. Nuclear medicine uses radioactive isotopes to successfully treat millions of people every year, and those isotopes are all produced in nuclear reactors. That's why I left Greenpeace: I could see that my fellow directors, none of whom had any science education, were starting to deal with issues around chemicals and biology and genetics, which they had no formal training in, and they were taking the organization into what I call "pop environmentalism," which uses sensationalism, misinformation, fear tactics, etc., to deal with people on an emotional level rather than an intellectual level.
Why do you favor nuclear energy over other non-carbon-based sources of energy?
Other than hydroelectric energy—which I also strongly support—nuclear is the only technology besides fossil fuels available as a large-scale continuous power source, and I mean one you can rely on to be running 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Wind and solar energy are intermittent and thus unreliable. How can you run hospitals and factories and schools and even a house on an electricity supply that disappears for three or four days at a time? Wind can play a minor role in reducing the amount of fossil fuels we use, because you can turn the fossil fuels off when the wind is blowing. And solar is completely ridiculous. The cost is so high...
Unfortunately, the environmental movement now is the primary obstacle here. If it weren't for their opposition to nuclear energy, there would be a lot fewer coal-fired power plants in the United States and other parts of the world today.

Asked by CNN if those earnings represented a conflict of interest given that she has dipped into her family's pocketbook to pay campaign bills, Clinton threw up her hands and laughed loudly for several seconds.

Here’s Nancy Pelosi reacting to news that President Bush may temporarily halt troop withdrawal in July on the basis of the recommendations of his “top war commander Gen. David Petraeus”:
And that’s why we want the president to manage this war better, answer the questions to the American people, and, again, I agree with Leader Reid—he is just dragging this out so he can put it at the doorstep of the new president of the United States.
And may I add, if he doesn’t change his economic policy, he will be leaving a failed war policy and a failed economy at the doorstep of that new president.
Note the words:
"...dragging this out so he can put it at the doorstep of the new president"
Nancy Pelosi thinks that if Bush doesn’t do something right away, he will leave a failed economy for the “next President” (Nice of her to be so considerate of President McCain! )
But is Nancy consistent in her wishes?
WASHINGTON—Defying the White House, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Wednesday the House will change its rules to avoid a required vote this year on a free-trade agreement with Colombia.
Pelosi, D-Calif., said the change would remove the timetable that says Congress must take up trade bills within 90 legislative days after they are received from the White House. She intended to bring the rule proposal to the full House on Thursday.
So, she wants Bush to act right away to fix the economy while she simultaneously changes the rules to avoid and delay a vote on Columbian Free Trade for more than 90 days, which could help the economy, but might force one or both of the Democrat candidates for president to cast a less than popular vote!
What’s the matter, Nancy? Don’t you want the economy to be fixed now instead of leaving it “at the doorstep of that new president”?
Nancy carps that the president stalls while she leads Congress in stalling a Free Trade agreement!
You can’t have it both ways!
What’s the matter, Nancy? Afraid of how Hillary or Barack might vote? Or are you afraid of how some voters might respond to those votes, which is why you want to delay the votes until after the election, so your candidates won’t be held accountable?
Hypocrisy, Thy Name is Nancy!
One BDS afflicted genius even put forth the conflicting views that Bush was doing it for political gain after having told us that the reason more attention wasn't given to Michael Monsoor was Bush's scheduling the ceremonyUpdate:I began the piece with
It really is too bad the way everything is politicized these days.Case in point: read the comment section. Three of our resident leftists at this site have shown up to comment. Not one took the opportunity to say anything to honor this fallen soldier, to thank him or his grieving family for the sacrifice he made, or to recognize the bravery of what he had done.
Instead, they wanted to politicize the post and make it about how bad the Bush administration is or how bad America is or was, or to snipe at the author of the piece, as though he were more important than his subject.
" on the day Petraus and Crocker brought the Iraq dog and pony show to the hill."
AP- Navy SEAL Michael A. Monsoor had fast thinking to do when a live grenade came out of nowhere to bounce off his chest: Take the clear path to safety that he had but his comrades didn't, try to toss it safely away, or throw himself on top of it.With barely an instant's hesitation on that Iraqi rooftop, Monsoor took the last course, sacrificing his life to save the men around him. For that, President Bush on Tuesday awarded him the Medal of Honor.
In an East Room ceremony, Bush presented the nation's highest military honor to Monsoor's still-grieving parents, Sally and George Monsoor. About 250 guests, including his sister and two brothers, fellow SEALS, other Medal winners, many friends and GOP Sen. John McCain and other members of Congress, looked on quietly.
"The Medal of Honor is awarded for an act of such courage that no one could rightly be expected to undertake it," Bush said. "Yet those who knew Michael Monsoor were not surprised when he did."
Bush has awarded the medals to 10 people during his presidency. Monsoor is only the third from the Iraq war, and Bush's lip trembled and tears streamed down his cheeks as the official citation was read with the details of his bravery.
Monsoor became a Navy SEAL, the military's most elite fighting force, in 2004.
... spring 2006, Monsoor was deployed to Ramadi in Iraq's dangerous, then-al-Qaida dominated Anbar Province, as an automatic weapons gunner and communications operator—a double assignment that often landed him more than 100 pounds of gear to carry in the hot desert.
In May, Monsoor ran through heavy enemy fire to pull a wounded SEAL to safety. He earned a Silver Star, the third-highest award for combat valor, for that action.
... four months later, on Sept. 29, 2006, that Monsoor and his two American teammates, plus members of the Iraqi Army, were on a rooftop in a Ramadi residential area known as a stronghold for the Sunni insurgency. They were providing early warning and sniper cover for a mission aimed at trying to clear the neighborhood.
After a long day of back-and-forth engagement and evidence that the enemy was closing them off, Monsoor and the two other SEALS moved to a confined outcropping of the roof for a better lookout position. An unseen insurgent lobbed a grenade, which hit Monsoor in the chest and landed on the floor in front of him. He yelled a warning, but quickly saw that his fellow SEALS, not positioned near the exit like he was, wouldn't be able to get clear in time. Monsoor fell onto the grenade just as it exploded, absorbing the blast with his body and dying from the injuries about 30 minutes later. Others suffered shrapnel wounds, but no one else was killed.
..."Mr. and Mrs. Monsoor: America owes you a debt that can never be repaid," Bush said. "This nation will always cherish the memory of your son."
Well, maybe... if they ever hear about it!

Is how Christopher Hitchens describes:
Rev. Jeremiah Wright,
Rev. Al Sharpton,
Rev. James Meeks, and
Louis Farrakhan.
The thing that this gaggle of cranks and parasites has in common is the extreme deference with which it is treated by the junior senator from Illinois. In April 2004, Barack Obama told a reporter from the Chicago Sun-Times that he had three spiritual mentors or counselors: Jeremiah Wright, James Meeks, and Father Michael Pfleger…
Obama has tried to distance himself from these men and what they teach, trying to stand aloof from the discussion. Hitchens on Obama:
…He seems, indeed, to have a real gift for remaining adequately uninformed about the real beliefs of his “mentors.”
In Hitchen’s piece, Obama Is No King, he compares Obama’s “mentors” to MLK.
Four decades after the murder in Memphis of a friend of the working man—a hero who was always being denounced by the FBI for his choice of secular and socialist friends and colleagues—the national civil rights pulpit is largely occupied by second-rate shakedown artists who hope to franchise “race talk” into a fat living for themselves. Far from preaching truth and brotherhood, they trade in cheap slander and paranoia and in venomous dislike of other minorities.
Gee, Christopher… Tell us how you really feel! And what about Obama, the politician of change! The one who can “transcend race”?
Typically tart tongued Hitchens scores again!...So amnesiac have we become, indeed, that we fall into paroxysms of adulation for a ward-heeling Chicago politician who does not complete, let alone “transcend,” the work of Dr. King; who hasn’t even caught up to where we were four decades ago; and who, by his chosen associations, negates and profanes the legacy that was left to all of us.
Nice! No bias at CBS! I'm sure they treat Republicans exactly the same way!I had to watch the report again after I received the following e-mail from a reader:
A key word was missing from that CBS report. I’ll give you a hint, it starts with a “D”.
Indeed, it’s true. I just watched twice, and apparently there is no mention of his party affiliation whatsoever.
ABC News is reporting that Republican strategist Dan Senor on This Week, said that Condoleezza Rice is “actively courting the vice presidential nomination.”
Which, if true, would play havoc with the Democratic memes of “First Woman” and “First Black” in the White House by giving voters a ”twofer”. (As opposed to the Ron Paul and the Dems with their “truthers”!)
This election cycle is certainly turning out to be well worth the price of admission!

Did you hear the tear jerker that Hillary is telling about health care? About an uninsured pregnant woman who loses her baby and then dies?
-WaPo“I remember listening to a story about a young woman in a small town along the Ohio River, in Meigs County, who worked in a pizza parlor,” the Democratic presidential candidate said during a stop in Cleveland, beginning a particularly grim tale.
“She got pregnant, she started having problems. There’s no hospital left in Meigs County, so she had to go to a neighboring county. She showed up, and the hospital said, ‘You know, you’ve got to give us $100 before we can see you.’ She didn’t have $100,” Clinton said.
“So the young woman went back home,” she continued. “The next time she went back, she was in an ambulance. It turned out she lost the baby. She was airlifted to Columbus.”
She paused before concluding: “And after heroic efforts at the medical center, she died.” The audience, as always, gasped.
The woman, Trina Bachtel, did die last August, two weeks after her baby boy was stillborn at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens, Ohio. But hospital administrators said Friday that Ms. Bachtel was under the care of an obstetrics practice affiliated with the hospital, that she was never refused treatment and that she was, in fact, insured.
“We implore the Clinton campaign to immediately desist from repeating this story,” said Rick Castrop, chief executive officer of the O’Bleness Health System. -NYT

Because hypocrisy is so overused these days, and most liberals don’t feel that they’re hypocrites, because hypocrisy is bad and their liberal educators have so reinforced their positive self image, that the charge of hypocrisy runs off them like…well, like water off an endangered turtle’s shell!
You see, Liberals are all about group politics. The Democratic party is an amalgam of disaffected minority groups: blacks, gays, unions, environmentalist wackos, Communists, socialists, feminists (or the dreaded, Black, Gay, Communists, Feminist Union!). In fact, in order to obtain power, this loose coalition of sometimes conflicting interests compromises its otherwise inviolable and “sacred” principles all the time!
The current Obama/Clinton illustrates a bit of cognitive dissonance. The usual meme for a Clinton presidential bid would be “Vote for Hillary, or you’re a misogynist!” This conflicts with the “Vote for Obama, or you’re a latent racist!”. And since Democrats feel that they are neither, they’re conflicted.
Presently, the Palestinians, darlings of the left in the Palestinian/ Israeli conflict are not content to merely fire rockets at innocent women and children, but are stooping so low as to kill endangered species!
Still deafening silence from the Left! I’m sure that if an Israeli contractor merely threatened the habitat of some endangered species to, say, build homes, the Left would have a cow (sacred, no doubt) and line up in protest. But, butcher an endangered species and drink its blood??? And it’s: “Hmmm! What’s on PBS tonight?”
Similarly, when Saddam Hussein destroyed 8,000-square-miles of wetlands, one of the world’s largest wetlands, liberal environmentalists were virtually silent. When George Bush sent the Army Corp of Engineers in to restore as much of the wetlands as humanly possible, guess who was silent? Hypocri…er…cognitive dissonants!
Similarly, when Bush liberated people from regimes that tortured, suppressed and killed women and homosexuals, cognitive dissonance prohibited your garden variety liberal from ever acknowledging any accomplishment from a conservative. Where would the political advantage be in that?

Update: Here's a post from Little Green Footballs about the "nasty" Israelis trying to save said endangered species! Expect further silence from the libs!
ABC News' George Stephanopoulos Reports: Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., and former President Bill Clinton are making very direct arguments to Democratic superdelegates, starkly insisting Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., cannot win a general election against presumptive Republican nominee, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.and this...
...there is no question the Clintons are passionately arguing their case against Obama in what is fast becoming an intense race not just for the votes of the public but of the Democratic elite known as superdelegates.

"I think, therefore iambic pentameter"?
"Dan Calabrese’s new column on Hillary Clinton’s past may bring the curtain down on her political future."
The now-retired general counsel and chief of staff of the House Judiciary Committee, who supervised Hillary when she worked on the Watergate investigation, says Hillary’s history of lies and unethical behavior goes back farther – and goes much deeper – than anyone realizes.
Jerry Zeifman, a lifelong Democrat, supervised the work of 27-year-old Hillary Rodham on the committee. Hillary got a job working on the investigation at the behest of her former law professor, Burke Marshall, who was also Sen. Ted Kennedy’s chief counsel in the Chappaquiddick affair. When the investigation was over, Zeifman fired Hillary from the committee staff and refused to give her a letter of recommendation – one of only three people who earned that dubious distinction in Zeifman’s 17-year career.
Why?
“Because she was a liar,” Zeifman said in an interview last week. “She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer. She conspired to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee and the rules of confidentiality.”
